Helps moisturize and provide a second skin. Acts as an antioxidant and emulsifier whilst also helps other vital ingredients penetrate skin.
They help in keeping oils and water mixed together on skin – acting as a complex protective barrier. Phospholipids may be described as having both heads and tails. The ‘head’ of a phospholipid is hydrophilic (attracted to water), while the hydrophobic ‘tails’ repel water. This means that they attract water and hold on to it. In practical terms it means that is a helpful moisturizer. The heads and tails organize themselves into bio-layers that give them a structure similar to that of skin. Because of this, Bellatorra products that contain Phospholipids have both an affinity with the skin and high tolerance. What’s more, phospholipids retain their structure when applied and may, therefore, be described as a “second skin”. Phospholipids are obtained from olive and hazelnut oils too. But only virgin oils! Phosopolipids work as an emulsifier because they dissolve oil in water. They work as carriers in a transdermal delivery systems that can help other ingredients penetrate. Phospholipids also work as an antioxidant, particularly when combined with tocopherol (Vitamin E).
