Sodium PCA

Sodium PCA

Sodium PCA is a natural moisturizer and humectant derived from plants, fruits and coconut oil reducing inflammation and helping to prevent surface irritation.

Sodium PCA

Retains moisture: It is an important humectant, due to the fact that it is extremely water absorbent and can hold several times its weight in water. It helps to reduce the loss of moisture, through evaporation. Skin naturally contains PCA, but as we age these levels drop quite considerably. PCA is an important component of the intracellular matrix, preventing skin cells from losing water and drying out. This ingredient is one of the major components of our skins’ natural moisturizing factor (NMF). When our skin has a good balance of oils and fats (lipids), it is well lubricated and has a smooth and healthy surface glow. Sodium PCA is the sodium salt of Pyroglutamic Acid and is a naturally occurring Amino Acid known as Proline, that is found in proteins. Sodium PCA is a stronger hydrating agent than traditional ingredients, such as Glycerine and Propylene Glycol. It also reduces inflammation in our skin, which it does by preventing surface irritation from becoming too serious, and penetrating deep into the epidermis (the outer layer of skin). An ingredient that reduces inflammation acts as an effective anti-aging ingredient which is why Sodium PCA is an important Anti-Aging ingredient.
